Asia Going Green

Asia organics expo attracts over 6,000 visitors, reflecting a huge industry take-off in the region

NOPA welcomed over 6,000 attendees

The Natural and Organic Products Asia 2015 expo wrapped up to great reception, with 6,211 traders, buyers and media attending the three-day exhibition.

This year’s expo was 70 per cent larger than 2014's, and was abuzz with energy and enthusiasm. The vast volume of international attendees and exhibitors demonstrates that there is a growing appetite ? and market ? for healthy products in Asia. Ecozine was in attendance both in terms of product presence and coverage, meeting and mingling with the organic food producers.

From organic chilli-infused rice oil made in Thailand to quinoa grown in the Andean Valley of Bolivia and fusion herbal teas designed in Hong Kong, the wide array of delicious products brought a real sense of positivity, and inspiration to the nascent organics industry here. For many of the international exhibitors, NOPA constituted their first foray into the Asian market.

Lively cooking demonstrations, a juicing competition, and captivating talks served to add to the bustling energy of the event. There were exhibitor sections from Thailand, USA, Hong Kong and Europe and products ranging from edibles, cosmetics and household items.

Some stand-out products that we just cannot wait to see hit the shelves of Hong Kong’s organic retailers include funky reusable bamboo coffee cups from ECoffee Cup, Laiki rice crackers, and Keraton organic Javanese coconut sugar.

“In the year since we held our inaugural fair, the market for natural and organic products has boomed here in Asia. As the industry’s foremost business event, Natural & Organic Products Asia is again creating a platform for brands and buyers to come together, explore opportunities and achieve real business growth in the world’s most exciting and explosive market,” said Stuart Bailey, General Manager of Diversified Communications Hong Kong, the organiser of Natural & Organic Products Asia 2015.

China’s annual consumption of organic products is expected to increase by as much as 50 per cent over the next decade, according to the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association ? positioning the nation as the fourth largest organic market in the world by 2020.
