Green Isle’s Goodfella’s pizza range has won the 2017 Innovation award for Best Halal Product Range, which was announced at Gulfood the the world's largest annual food and hospitality event.

The company has just launched its frozen pizza range in Saudi Arabia.

The Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed said the prize follows investment by Green Isle in product development, in innovation and, as a member of Origin Green, in a commitment to sustainable production of consumer foods.

"They are increasingly looking to this region as a market for high value food products and I support their ambition“.

Green Isle Foods recently relaunched the Goodfella’s Halal Takeaway and expanding our Goodfella’s stonebaked thin range with a new Halal Doner Kebab pizza. The company also launched a new Goodfella’s thin and crispy Doner Kebab pizza.

The Middle East region accounted for €247m of Irish food and drink exports in 2016 and 21 Irish companies are exhibiting at Gulfood.

“We are very excited about our business prospects in this market as it is one of the largest markets in the Middle East, with a population exceeding 30m,” said Liam Hyland, Head of Exports, Green Isle Foods.

Liam says securing distribution into Saudi is a great achievement for Green Isle’s Irish frozen pizza brand and he believes recent successes achieved in neighbouring markets, will be replicated in this country. “According to Nielsen, we were the fastest growing pizza brand in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).”

Tara McCarthy, Bord Bia’s CEO, said the recent breakthrough of Green Isle Foods onto supermarket shelves in Saudi Arabia and their success in winning the Innovation Award at Gulfood is clear evidence that Irish companies can excel in this market.

The Middle East, widely regarded as a ‘foodie region’ with an 80-90% import requirement, presents a significant and growing opportunity for Irish food exporters, Tara McCarthy said.
