Bangladesh should set up a halal testinstitute like BSTI, speakers say 

 

Speakers at a seminar have urged thegovernment and the businesses to come forward to set up a halal industry inBangladesh to boost economy.

 

There is a demand for halal products toboth Muslim and non-Muslim people across the world, they said.

 

The speakers came up with the suggestion ata seminar on "Halal Certification Standards and Challenges: Opportunitiesfor Bangladesh Market" organized by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry(DCCI) held at its auditorium in Dhaka on Thursday.

 

They also said Bangladesh should set up ahalal test institute like Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI)to monitor the standard and quality of products.

 

Bangladesh Investment DevelopmentAuthority’s Executive Chairman Kazi M Aminul Islam said: "We areinterested in halal-based goods considering the Muslim population. Theseproducts have domestic value in western countries too. So we can also grab themarket for the sake of boosting our economy.

 

He asked businesses to come forward toproduce international standard halal products. “The government policy is needed for that.''

 

United Arab Emirates Ambassador toBangladesh Saed Mohamed Saed said his country is ready to assist Bangladesh inmaking halal goods.

 

“Halal goods are very healthy. It hasdemand across the world such as Africa, South Asia and Europe.”

 

The envoy further said: "All goodssuch as food items, cosmetics and clothes are being supplied by the UAE afterhalal test.”

 

Ossama Emam, head of the sales andmarketing department of Dubai-based RACS Quality Certificates Issuing Services,presented the keynote paper at the seminar, while DCCI president Abul KasemKhan gave the welcome address.
